Letters Between Books.

Syazee was on the park bench, waiting for Nuiz. When she saw Nuiz, she waved and Nuiz scampered over to her.

“It’s 7 in the evening, Syazee. Why would you want to come to the park at this time? And why drag me with you, honestly?” Nuiz asked her exasperatedly.

“Me? Call you? You said that you wanted to meet me here!” Syazee told Nuiz with an eyebrow raised. Nuiz’s eyes widened as she asked, “Seriously?”

Syazee nodded her head crazily. The two friends were both quiet, looking at each other in an odd expression.

“You know what, I’m going home. See you tomorrow at school, Nuiz.” Syazee said as she walked away. Nuiz didn’t bother stopping her. Syazee waved at Nuiz and Nuiz waved back. As soon as she was alone, Nuiz sat on the bench and sighed.

“Seriously.” Nuiz whispered to herself. She turned to her right and was surprised to see her book, Holding Up the Universe next to her on the bench.

She was hesitant to pick it up at first. She put out a wary hand and took the book. She flipped the pages to page 76 and 77. There was a letter between the two pages.

Nuiz,

Please don’t leave your book at school. I have to wait until the next day for your answer.

PS, you probably don’t know most of your seniors. Happy guessing!

PPS, yes, I was the one that called you to the park. I had to use Syazee as a diversion so that you wouldn’t have suspected anything. Don’t wonder how I did it. I’m a tech-geek I can hack.

-Git Gud.

Nuiz laid her head back and laughed. “I went to a park, at 7 in the evening, just to find out that some intriguing senior of mine wanted to give my book back.”

She laughed even harder and yelled out loud, “Git Gud! Haha you hilarious senior. I may not know who you are but I know for sure that I’m going to like you!”

“Hey, you’re back.” Zaid said as Nuiz walked into the living room with her book in her hand and a grin on her face.

“What’re you grinning for?” Zaid asked. Nuiz looked at him and just laughed.

“Brother?”

“Sister?”

“Do you know anyone, anyone in school who’s older than me, that calls himself ‘Git Gud’?” Nuiz asked with a smile. Zaid looked at her oddly and asked why.

“Because whoever that guy is, he has me interested and I want to know who he is. Please do you know anyone who calls himself Git Gud?!” Nuiz asked her brother exasperatedly.

“You weren’t holding a book when you left the house.” Zaid said instead.

“It’s my book. I magically found it in the park.” Nuiz told her brother as she started laughing again.

“Sure, and pigs fly, Nuiz. Go up to your room and get your damn head straight. You’re being so idiotic right now that you’re speaking a different language.” Zaid told her as he rolled his eyes. He continued watching The Simpsons.

“The Simpsons are just as stupid as me…!” Nuiz yelled, her voice trailing as she ascended the stairs.

“Go upstairs, Nuiz!” Zaid yelled back, grinning as he tried to hold in a laugh.

“Geez, what’s gotten into her?” Zaid whispered to himself.

Git Gud,

You sly senior. You definitely have my liking, though. I really want to know who you are.

-Nuiz.

“Yesterday was totally weird, right?” Syazee asked Nuiz on the way to school. They both walked to school together occasionally if it was still early. Nuiz was hugging her book (or aka the only way she and her geek talk) to her chest with a smile, barely even listening to what Syazee was saying.

Syazee looked at her friend with an eyebrow raised and groaned exasperatedly. She clapped her hands as loud as she could, waking Nuiz from her daydream.

Nuiz jumped and looked at Syazee. “Seriously? That’s like the 5th time you’ve spaced out in 10 minutes! What’s gotten into you, girl?”

“Nothing.” Nuiz replied with a smile. Syazee elbowed her.

“What?” Nuiz asked with a smile. Syazee smiled smugly back at her and looked away. Nuiz lifted an eyebrow.

“You got somebody special and you’re not telling me now, aren’t yah?” Syazee asked with gleaming eyes. Nuiz tried hard not to blush so she rolled her eyes and told her, “That’s ridiculous. We both know all the guys in our class are complete freaks.”

“All except Damian.” Syazee said as she looked at Nuiz in full cheekiness.

“Shut it, Syazee we both know Damian’s with that foreigner, Mikayla.” Nuiz told her.

“Shut up, seriously??”

“Yes, now stop bugging me.”

“What about Mike?” Syazee asked with a grin. They both looked at each other in disgust as they both knew that Mike was a complete weirdo.

“Seriously Syazee? The guy that tried making a creature out of a hamster and a frog?” Nuiz shivered at the thought. Syazee laughed.

“We better hurry. Bells ringing in half an hour.” Syazee said. And with that, they both fastened their pace.

They both got at school 10 minutes before the bell rang. As they walked through the hallway, Maddie, one of their classmates, walked up to them.

“Hey, Mad what up?” Nuiz asked.

“You guys going to Lenni’s party this weekend?” Maddie asked excitedly, looking at Syazee and Nuiz. The two friends looked at each other and back to Maddie.

“I guess we aren’t invited.” Nuiz told Maddie with a shrug.

“That’s why I’m here, silly! Lenni asked me to invite everyone in class and some of the seniors.” Maddie told them.

“Your question 5 minutes ago didn’t sound like an invitation, though.” Syazee said flatly. Nuiz nudged her as she feared that her statement hurt Maddie’s feelings. Syazee looked at Nuiz and mouthed, ‘What?’

“Anyway, thanks, Maddie. We’ll come. Just text me the exact day, time and location.” Nuiz saved the situation. Maddie’s face lit up and she walked away, leaving the two friends to themselves.

“But seriously? That wasn’t an invitation that was a question.” Syazee said, still intending on extending the conversation.

Nuiz rolled her eyes. The bell rang and they both looked at each other.

“C’mon. Let’s get a move on before Mr. Gats locks the door and locks us outside.” Nuiz told Syazee as she fastened her pace.

Nuiz and Syazee were both in the cafeteria eating breakfast. The cafeteria was in its normal noisy state.

“You think Lenni’s party’s going to be a bash?” Syazee asked, biting on an apple. Nuiz looked up from her food and said, “Lenni always throws the best parties. No doubt in that.”

“Maddie said Lenni was going to invite seniors. Do you think your brother’s going to be invited? If he is then we can go to the party in his car. That would be easier than walking.” Syazee mentioned. Nuiz grinned secretly as she knew that her friend had a crush on her brother but tried to cover her tracks. Nothing slips unnoticed though, Nuiz thought.

“I’m going to the library. The cafeteria seems noisier than usual today that it’s giving me a headache.” Nuiz said as she got up. She left Syazee to her breakfast and dropped by her classroom. She’d left her book under her desk earlier that morning and was hoping that Git Gud had left her a letter or something.

And he sure did!

Nuiz,

Maddie, your classmate told me that you’ve been invited to Lenni’s party this weekend. I’ve been invited too so see you there (even though I’ll be the only one out of both of us excited to see you there).

-Git Gud.
